These brain chemicals support improved cognitive functioning, memory, focus, and positive mood. In addition, they help depress the central nervous system to decrease levels of anxiety. An article in Nature Communications explored the impact of serotonin on mood (7).
BrainMD also includes ingredients that can increase cerebral blood flow, which improves mental alertness and supports overall brain health. There are also anti-inflammatory agents which can decrease brain swelling.
The sleep products include ingredients which induce relaxation, like valerian. There’s also melatonin, which is normally released by the pineal gland when it’s time to sleep. It helps you sleep faster and improves its quality. An article in Nutrition Journal discussed the effectiveness of melatonin for promoting a healthy sleep (8).
These supplements are full of antioxidants which eliminate free radicals in the body and lower oxidative stress. This promotes overall healing in the mind and body, and it strengthens the immune system.
BrainMD Ingredients – What to Look For?
Here are some of the primary active BrainMD ingredients:
Magnesium – This is a key mineral that has many important function in the body, like regulating blood pressure and heart rhythm. It also relays signals between the body and the brain from receptors linked to learning and memory (1). An article in Nature discussed the research supporting the brain-elevating effects of magnesium (2).
GABA – This is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, and also an amino acid. In addition, it exists naturally in many foods. It may decrease levels of stress and anxiety as well as promote a more restful, quality sleep (3). An article in Frontiers in Psychology talked about the effect of GABA on brain and behavior (4).
Phosphatidylserine – This is a phospholipid that is part of the cell membrane and promotes its health. It also protects the myelin sheath surrounding the nerve cell. It can improve memory, focus, attention, recall, reasoning, communication, and language skills (5). A study in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition found that this substance improves memory in subjects with memory problems (6).
Holy Basil – also known as Tulsi, is an adaptogenic herb renowned for its potential benefits in supporting brain health and cognitive function.
As highlighted in our NuRal Reviews, this herb is rich in compounds that may help reduce stress and anxiety, which in turn can improve overall mental clarity and focus. Studies suggest that Holy Basil can enhance cognitive function by reducing cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress, and promoting a sense of calm and well-being.
Research indicates that Holy Basil may also protect the brain from neurodegenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties, which help fight oxidative stress and inflammation. These effects are crucial for maintaining cognitive health and preventing age-related cognitive decline.
